Children’s Ministry at the Cathedral is centered on the belief that children are a vital part of the church.
We believe that each child should feel known and loved and that God’s love is revealed through the relationships we experience in our faith community.

October Children’s MInistry highlights

Sundays, October 6, 13, 20 + 27 | Bread and Cup: Eucharist Instruction
A new series during children’s chapel! Building on what they have learned in Children’s Eucharist, for six weeks we will take children and middlers (ages 4 through 11) through an Eucharist instruction course. Five weeks of lessons and activities will culminate in a special recognition during the 10:15 a.m. service on Sunday, November 10.

Sunday, October 6 | Children’s Ministry Social (following the 10:15 am service)
Let’s celebrate St. Francis! Gather in the courtyard after the 10:15 a.m. service for a fun time to make a bird feeder and play hide-and-seek with stuffed animals. Kids are encouraged to bring a donation of pet food or supplies as part of our October outreach to Pet Pal Animal Shelter.

Sunday, October 6 | Christmas Pageant Meeting
Maggie Suttell will have an information session for parents on Sunday, October 6, at 11:30 a.m. in the choir room to share more about the pageant and rehearsal schedule. Children’s Ministry and the Children’s Choir are teaming up to work towards a musical Christmas pageant on Sunday, December 15, during the 10:15 a.m. service. Because we have several songs to learn, rehearsals will be on Sundays from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., October 13 through December 8. All children ages 4 through 12 are invited to join the pageant. There will be opportunities for kids to sing and play instruments. Register your child for the pageant here.

Thursday, October 10 | Messy Church Does Science
Join us to see how our faith and science go hand in hand as we do fun science experiments about the earth, stars, and space. What can we learn about this amazing galaxy God has created, and how can we better care for the earth? Families with kids of all ages are invited to join us. We have a shared meal from 5:45 to 6:15 p.m. and our activities are from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. Please RSVP to Hillary Peete by Sunday, October 6, to help us plan our messy fun.

Praise! Fine Arts VBS | August 2019

We are so proud of our kids! We had a blast exploring all the ways we praise God through sharing our talents, remembering to say thanks, and seeing the beauty of God’s creation. Here’s a slideshow that captures some highlights and a video of their performance of Uyai Mose during worship on August 11. Enjoy!

Faith at Home

Curious about how to incorporate faith at home? A great way to start is by building a library of children’s spirituality books. They don’t need to be read separately, just weave them in naturally to bedtime stories or whenever your family reads together. This is a list of carefully chosen books that reflect God’s unconditional love for us and all people. Enjoy some summer reading!

Children’s Chapel | Sundays at 10:15 am

Children’s Chapel (ages 4-7) offers a child-centered worship space on Sunday mornings during the 10:15 am service. Children’s Chapel is lively and engaging while teaching children about the building blocks of Episcopal worship: hearing God’s word in scripture, wondering how God is calling us to act in the world, and offering prayers to God.

Children are invited to join us in Children’s Chapel at 10:00 am for a welcoming activity and play until Chapel starts at 10:15. Children will rejoin adults in the church following the offering so that they can participate in Eucharist.

For children ages 8-11 we also offer Middler Chapel, which is led by our Youth Minister, Alicia Schmid.

St. Peter’s is a welcoming community, and we want all children to be part of our program. If your child has special needs, whether physical, developmental, emotional or otherwise, they are still very much welcome in worship and children’s chapel. Contact Hillary Peete to discuss how best to ensure that your child will have a positive experience in church.

Children’s Eucharist | 2nd Sundays

Children’s Eucharist takes place every 2nd Sunday in the Children's Chapel, Children are invited to participate in this integral heart of the Episcopal liturgy and life. They remain in Children's Chapel for the entirety of the 10:15 service and join their families at coffee hour.

From 10:15-11:00, children participate in the regular rhythm of Children’s Chapel and at 11:00, Middlers join us for Eucharist led by one of our priests. We intentionally use the same Rite II language from “big church” so that children become familiar and comfortable with the liturgy. Children are offered opportunities to serve as acolytes and assist in serving the bread and wine.

Parents are always welcome to stay and participate in Children’s Eucharist.

Messy Church | 2nd Thursdays

Messy Church is an intergenerational family gathering involving worship, crafts, music, and storytelling. The fun starts at 5:45 pm with a shared supper and wraps up at 7:30 pm. This year we are exploring the Bible with Messy Church Does Science. Each month we will hear stories and dive deeper through hands on science experiments. Don’t miss a minute of Messy Church. C’mon, let’s get messy!

If you are interested in volunteering with Messy Church, please contact Hillary Peete. It is really helpful if we know how many kids and families to expect so that we can prepare dinner and craft supplies. Please RSVP by the prior Monday to Hillary Peete. Everyone is welcome to join us!

Children’s Ministry social | First sundays

On the first Sunday of the month, families are invited to join us in the garden following the 10:15 am service. Building relationships and community at church is an important part of faith development for kids and adults alike. We host Children’s Ministry Socials to give everyone an informal time to gather. This is an opportunity for regular Cathedral families as well as newcomers to connect and for kids to play. We always provide games and dependable crowd pleasers like bubbles and sidewalk chalk! Please come by for as little or as long as you can, catch up with an old friend and introduce yourself to someone new.
